New structures, new challenges
Gröger therefore has an important role to play in the restructuring process at TDM Systems and within the Sandvik Group. Since last year, TDM Systems and CRIBWISE have been working together in the new Tool Flow Solutions Business Unit. "The collaboration with CRIBWISE has given us a broader perspective overall," explains Matthias Gröger. "The new structures at Tool Flow Solutions have internationalized our environment, creating new opportunities for innovative exchange and new synergies."
On a technological level, the focus of his tasks includes the implementation of future-oriented innovations such as artificial intelligence or the integration of new applications, including efficient browser-based software solutions. One example is the TDM Machine Web Client, designed for the TDM Global Line and TDM ClassiX software lines. It simplifies tool management right where it’s needed most - on the shopfloor. In future, new functions and improved displays will provide direct support for the many individual tasks involved in tool preparation.
Customer contact on an equal footing
For Matthias Gröger, however, proximity to the customer is a key component of the company's development in the context of restructuring. "I have discussions with many of our customers personally and talk to them specifically about our products and their requirements for current and future developments," he explains in relation to the exchange. "This means that our customers also have the opportunity to contribute their own ideas. This direct exchange provides us with the most valuable feedback, which we can then implement in our solutions."
A clear trend has emerged from these conversations: Customers want solutions that provide high-performance, simple and, above all, efficient support for day-to-day operations. In other words, pragmatic solutions that deliver real added value. The TDM Machine Web Client is a prime example of this, as it was developed based on direct customer suggestions.
An exciting future
One of the biggest challenges in product development, Gröger explains, is catering to different user groups: "We have users among our customers who have been working with our solutions for many years and know exactly how to use the functions efficiently for themselves. At the same time, we are currently experiencing a generational change. Long-time users who have been using TDM for years and have in-depth knowledge are retiring and the subsequent, younger users are looking for other features, such as a highly intuitive application in a simple user interface. Our goal is to support both groups while preparing for the future."
For Matthias Gröger, these are exciting times at TDM Systems; he sees the changes in the company as a great opportunity to drive technological innovation and to seek close exchange with users who continue to fully drive digitization in shopfloor operations: "It's great to work so closely with our customers as well as with our own experts - together, we’re shaping the future of the digital factory."
